The recent work deals with perspectival and perceptual illusion. The paintings create contradicting planes of depth and space that throw the viewer into the deception of Optics. There is a quizzical humour that draws on a heterogeneous range of sources from the history of painting; Particularly a Pre-Renaissance synthetic perspective and sense of Architectural space. The works gain narrative through traditional figure-ground relationships with traces of situation or personality. This pulls the work away from its formal tendencies towards Geometric Abstraction.
